Our History

1876 J.G. Mulford Co. founded and first insurance policies sold.
1933 C.W. Bollinger Co. founded and incorporated.
1946 Pioneers student and athletic insurance in New Jersey.
1963 Sells amateur sports insurance nationwide.
1983 Starts golf and country club insurance program.
1992 Adopts ESOP and becomes an employee-owned company.
1994 Consolidates all operations to headquarters in Short Hills, NJ with merged agencies: JG Mulford Co.; Pearsall, Maben & Frankenbach; Molter Agency; Stevenson Agency; and Insurance Professionals, Inc.
1995 Merges with Fowler Agency and Shepard, Caulfield & McCue
1999 Acquires F.J. Wilkes & Co. and the Young Perry Agency, both of which relocate to Short Hills.
2000 Acquires Spalding Associates, Princeton, NJ and R&F of New York, in New York City establishing branch offices in both locations.
2001 For the fourth year in a row, the Independent Agents of America has singled out Bollinger for excellence by selecting it as one of the “Best Practices Agencies” in America
2001 Robert E. Linnett Agency, Caldwell, NJ and Dunlop, Onderdonk & Wilson, Wayne, NJ merge with Bollinger in Short Hills.
2001 Acquires Excess & Surplus Lines agencies, Market Solutions Managers and Princeton Risk Managers.
2001 Recognized as the 36th largest insurance agency in the U.S. (by Business Insurance) and the 15th largest privately held insurance broker (by Hales & Company).
2002 Alfred H. Merritt Agency of Princeton, NJ, merges with Bollinger.
2003 For the third consecutive year, recognized as #1 in automation by The Automated Agency Report.
2003 The Madara Company, Mt. Laurel, NJ merges with Bollinger, establishing a branch office in Mt. Laurel.
2003 Bollinger acquires Nixon-Gallagher, New York, NY and The Bartley Agency, Chester, NJ.
2003 Recognized as one of the top 20 agencies in productivity by Business Insurance.

Ranked as the 34th largest insurance agency in the U.S. (by Business Insurance) and the 12th largest privately held insurance broker (by Hales & Company).  2003 premium volume exceeds $530 million.

2004 Merger with Storrie, Budd & Jones Agency, Woodbury Heights, NJ, establishes fourth branch office location.
2004 Ranked as the 30th largest insurance agency in the U.S. by Business Insurance.
2005 Named one of the "Best Places to Work in New Jersey" by Best Companies Group.
2005 Bollinger Academy, a nine month insurance training program for newly hired college graduates is established.
2005 Bollinger acquires the Thomas Fallon Insurance Agency of Woodcliff Lake, NJ.
2005 Ranked as the 24th largest insurance agency in the U.S. (by Business Insurance) and the 7th largest privately held insurance broker (by Hales & Company). 2004 premium volume exceeds $630 million.
2005 Ranked as one of the top 10 agencies in productivity by Business Insurance.
2005 Mt. Laurel and Woodbury Hts. branch offices relocate to state-of-the-art facilities in Moorestown, NJ.
2005 Bollinger acquires The Rork Agency of Midland Park, NJ
2006 MLW Services, 100 William Street, New York, NY merges with Bollinger
2006 Bollinger gains a significant presence in the southwestern area of New Jersey by acquiring three insurance agencies in Salem and Cumberland counties -The Hitchner Agency, Elmer, NJ; Tri County Insurors, Pennsville, NJ; and the Barton F. Sharpe Agency, Bridgeton, NJ.
2006 Bollinger acquires Haas & Haas Agency and The Surety Source.  Both Voorhees, NJ agencies relocate to Bollinger's Moorestown office.
2006 Bollinger acquires Windsor Benefits and James E. Hopgood & Associates. Both Denville, NJ agencies relocate to Short Hills.
2006 With 2005 premium volume exceeding $670 million, ranked as the nation's 25th largest insurance agency (by Business Insurance) and the 8th largest privately held insurance broker (by Hales & Company).
2006 Ranked #9 as one of New Jersey's Finest Companies, a NJBiz awards program honoring the State's 50 fastest growing companies.
2006 Acquires Mather & Co. of Philadelphia, establishing a presence in Pennsylvania.
2007 Opens a fourth NJ location in Vineland to service its South Jersey Personal Lines clients.
2007 Acquires The Peter Duffy Agency of Green Village, NJ and Patchett, Grode & Topp of Wyckoff, NJ
2007 For the third consecutive year, named one of the "Best Places to Work in New Jersey" by Best Companies Group.
2007 Acquires William J. Redmond and Associates of Freehold, NJ
2007 With 2006 premium volume exceeding $820 million, ranked as the nation's 20th largest insurance agency (by Business Insurance).
